Steve Matchett's second book, Acts of the Mechanic, is an extraordinary work, in essence, Memoires of the Grand Prix mechanic throughout the ten-year career with the Benetton Formula One team. That engineers have to write such interesting and entertaining account of his life in the rather closed world of Grand Prix racing is unique in itself, but what makes this book so extraordinary is the original authors approach to the subject and a natural talent for writing: his style is intelligent, rhetorical and very readable. "Often in an endless stream biogrophies industry roiled by Formula One book," Automotive News said, "It's something different up his .." Matchett touches on all aspects of a prestigious job, described the tremendous effort that the team is expected to provide; danger and high stress of the pit stop; a myriad of famous drivers he works with, and how Benetton and Schumacher stormed the world championships - amid great controversy - along 1994 and 1995. But Tale The Mechanic is more than a collection of frivolity adventure racing, through its occasional deviations Matchett takes the reader on a colorful entertainment, including the ill-fated balloon trip; views on the future of computer technology, and a somewhat surreal comaprisons between Formula One and the 1984 Orwell. All that, combined with his efforts to make excuses Jabberwoky Lewis Carroll, to make something a book but predictable.
